Problem
The business case for SpaceX was to improve its proprietary ERP system’s efficiency and speed to market and make it accessible from the manufacturing floor. Technossus enabled SpaceX employees to quickly and easily access the ERP system and manage production directly from the manufacturing floor despite some complex challenges. Three elements of the project made it especially complex. 1.) The manufacturing process is highly complex and technical. 2.) SpaceX uses its own proprietary ERP system. And 3.) The new system had to be integrated with no workflow interruption. The defined goal was to build a flexible ERP system for highly specialized, mission-critical, speedy operational rocket booster production – all within an aggressively set deadline.
The
Solution
Technossus built a custom aerospace manufacturing ERP system that allowed employees to directly interact with the system using large touch screens strategically positioned throughout the manufacturing floor. Employees could quickly access any information they needed, report issues on the fly, and immediately resolve problems.
By enabling employees to quickly and easily access the ERP system and manage production issues directly from the manufacturing floor, the new system greatly improved plant efficiency. Technossus’ involvement also helped SpaceX meet very aggressive targets in their manufacturing schedule.
